Good News for Christmas
The following is copied from Glenn Shepherd's blog for today. I thought it was very good; hope you enjoy.
I'd like to give you a special Christmas present I haven't seen anyone giving - good news about the economy!
Since you can't turn on the TV without being bombarded by nay-sayers trying to convince you the sky is falling, I'd like to tell the rest of the story, as Mr. Harvey would say.
While everyone is freaking out over the dark economic cloud that rained on many parades, there are also many silver linings the mainstream media doesn't bother to mention.
Here are ten good things about our economy.
1. Last week, home mortgage rates fell to a 50 year low. If you're in the market to buy a house or refinance, you can get a mortgage at rates not seen since the '57 Chevy was still new.
2. Home prices have also dropped, so today's home buyers are getting a steal of a deal.
3. Stocks are on sale right now, and some people will get rich because of it. For example, Ford sold at $66 per share in 1999, and is now selling at less than $3 per share.
4. Automakers are selling roughly 1/3 fewer new cars than usual. Economists are happy about this because they believe too many cars were being made. Environmentalists are happy because fewer cars on the road means lower emissions. This also means fewer accidents, shorter commutes, and less fuel consumption.
5. Because of the instability of many big national banks, small local banks and credit unions are seeing a HUGE influx of cash. For example, United Heritage Credit Union in Austin, Texas, saw a 35% increase in new checking accounts in July, a 43% increase in August, and a 52% increase in September.
6. While Starbucks' sales are down by 95%, Campbell's Soup's sales are up by 12%. In its 139 year existence, Campbell's has survived 28 recessions, two world wars and the Great Depression. They are the true "$1 Meal", and the sales increase means that people are being smarter with their money.
7. Major retailers in shopping malls report lower sales this Christmas. Why is this good news? Because as Dave Ramsey says, "The Mall" is French for "Paid too much". Meanwhile, discount stores like Goodwill are enjoying sales increases. As a proud customer of Goodwill, I can personally attest to the fact that it's an awesome place to get great stuff at incredible bargains.
8. Credit is now harder to get. People will now have to actually qualify for loans. (Imagine that!)
9. As the unemployment rate rises and the available supply of labor increases, businesses can be more selective about who they hire. As a result, they'll hire better people, which will make their companies stronger.
10. Illegal aliens are leaving the U.S. because jobs aren't as abundant. This will help the economy by reducing the burden placed on schools, hospitals, etc., by people who consume public services but don't pay income taxes. This also means one less excuse for politicians to raise your taxes.
We've had it really good time for a long time, and there were too many out-of-control people who were in a drunken orgy of spending.
Although no one likes it, some of these folks needed a slap in the face from the harsh hand of reality to sober them up.
Generation after generation has faced adversity, and came out stronger for it. Contrary to what Katie Couric and company keep trying to convince you of, this is NOT EVEN CLOSE to the Great Depression. This too shall pass, and you're going to be just fine.
Have a Merrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry Christmas,
Santa Glenn with Tidings of Good Cheer

Small Story
I was trying to figure out what to post today and I ran across this and thought I would share with everyone.
This is a story about four people: Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry with that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody have done.
I hope everyone has a great day! Remember there are only 9 days left until Christmas!!!

The Right Focus
Jennifer Lopez said "As human beings, we have a tendency to focus on the negative . . . You can have all this wonderful stuff and this one little thing is going wrong and we tend to focus on that. It's not about that. Its about being grateful."
This week let me challenge you to choose to focus on the good things in your life and be grateful for what you have.

Happy Thanksgiving!
I would like to wish each of you a Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you will take time this week to consider all of the many reasons you have to be thankful.
I am thankful for the opportunity to work with such a great group of people. Many of you have asked me how my new position is going. I’m excited to tell you it has been a challenge but I’m finally beginning to think I’m in control of it rather than it being in control of me. I would like to thank each of you for your support during this time of transition. I still have a lot to learn in my new role with the company but thanks to my co-workers and the Montgomery's I am progressing. Your consideration and helpfulness is making the transition easier.
Since I’ve not had the opportunity to meet many of you personally, I thought I would share some personal things about me. I have been married to a wonderful Christian man for the past two and a half years. Jerry is the Pastor of First Baptist Church of Dennis. We have six children, 3 daughter-in-laws, 1 son-in-law but most important 5 beautiful grandchildren. Oh yes, 3 dogs.
Now that you know a little about me I would enjoy hearing about you and your family. I am looking forward to meeting those of you that I haven’t had the opportunity to meet and getting to know all of you much better.
Thanks again,
Shanda

It's that time again!
Dana finished bankstatments today and overall they were ok! There were several offices that had little or NO mistakes. Bankstatements can be very dreadful if there are mistakes. Some of the common mistakes are not sending checkups and checkup not matching what was actually deposit. Please make sure that you continue to double check your work before you take it to the bank.
Hats off to...
Aberdeen CTE
Aberdeen KC
Amory CTE
Amory MM
Belmont
Fulton
Hernando
Hamilton
Iuka
New Albany

RE-POST
I posted this blog a several days back and I believe it got skipped due to all the other post that week. Please take the time to read if you have not.
Hey! I have a problem...
is how I started most of my phone conversations last week. I had the PLEASURE to do Jana House's job while she was off playing in Talledaga. I posted check-ups for CSI and MLSI, and I helped Dana with a few bank statements. I have always known that bookkeeping could be a "headache" job and now I know it truly is a difficult position. There were several mistakes that each office made that could have been AVOIDED if check-ups would have been double checked before sending them in. I'm going to list a few problems that I had last week, and I would like EVERYONE to make notes of them and work hard to correct these issues.
1. Check Numbers- I know this does not seem like a big thing but if each office forgot "1" check Jana would have to make "50" phone calls.
Do not skip check numbers. If you VOID a check, you still must report it on the check up. Once you have posted a check on your check up please mark that check stub with a BIG *, so that you know where you stopped.
2. Match Deposits with Check-ups - During the few bank statements I did I ran across several mistakes where offices would have one number on their checkup but would have deposited something TOTALLY DIFFERENT! Please make sure that you look at your check-ups when writing out your deposits. The way I had to figure this problem out was I had to pull that office's check-ups and then call them to ask why their deposit and check-up did not match. For example, I called an office and had the manager pull out her paperwork for a certain day and she figured out that they had posted the wrong numbers to the check-ups. If this office would have matched the deposit to the check-up then they would have caught the mistake before sending it in. This was a small problem to fix but took 30-45 minutes to figure out.
3. Checkups are due by 10:00 - If you forget to send checkups, please put a reminder on your computer. Everyone has a reminder in their email that will pop up to help remind you to send them in. If you need help with this, please ask.
These are just a few things that I had problems with. So let's all try to make Jana and Dana's job a little less stressful and a little faster. If you have any questions about check-ups, please get with Jana and she will be glad to assist you.

Yesterday
As you know, yesterday was Boss's Day. The Fulton ladies threw a small party for Luke to show their appreciation for him. I think he was a little surprised, but thankful at the same time.
There are several qualities that make a great boss, but here are a few that we found on the internet and really liked:
1. Creates a productive environment.
2. Consistently demonstrates a high level of integrity.
3. Encourages innovation and new ideas.
4. Provides objective recognition.
5. Willing to coach and support employees.
6. Encourages open communication.
7. Provides clear direction.
8. Is a true leader.
9. Positive thinker.
10. Builds positive morale.
We are grateful to have a boss that possess all of these qualities. Thanks Luke for all that you do for us. We appreciate you!

Would you like...
to buy a candle, is what the customers at Tuscaloosa location will be asked. Tonya and the girls have been selling candles for Relay for Life. The candles are from J and J Candle Makers. They are sellling them for $10.00 each.
Tonya asked me if she could sell candles after she read the blog about the Hamilton girls. I told her yes we could try a few to see how they did. She order 12 for her office, Hamilton, and Fulton. There are over 290 different scents. Some of the scents are: monnkey toot, romancing ms tootie, hawaian pardise, pomegranate, alabama kudzu, candy corn, etc.
If you have any ideas that your office would like to do, please let me know!

Halloween Costume...
Contest, anyone? In the past, we had a small costume contest. We decided last year that we were too big to get around to each location to judge, but this year we have decided to try it again. The 3 Area Manager's will judge and the winning office will receive a free HOUR lunch together outside the office while your Area Manager fills in!!
Please note that there are a few guidelines that we must all follow:
1. Everyone in the office must dress up as a team!
2. Each office must get a picture to Laken by 12:00 that day to be judged.
3. Please make sure that you costume is appropriate to wear to work.
Have fun! Trick or Treat!

Twice as many Winners!!
We had our Area Managers meeting yesterday and we decided to stick with the same monthly competition for this quarter, but we added a new twist. We want all of the offices to focus a lot of your attention on collections, and we feel that adding a little more to the competition will help motivate you.
The office to collect the most A/W/O's will receive $300. The 2nd place winner will receive 8 hours PTO. Remember to run tag numbers or vin #'s on CVR to find new addresses, and use your accurint time as well. It helps!
If your office collects the most money in return checks, you will win $200. The office that comes in 2nd place wins 8 hours PTO. Verify funds daily!
The office to have the highest net will win $200 and again, the 2nd place winner will receive 8 hour PTO.
Here's how it will work... For the office that wins 1st place, we will put all of the employee's names for that office in a drawing to decide the winner, unless the office agrees to split the money. 2nd place winners will be decided the same way. You will have the decision to split the 8 hours PTO with one another or we will draw for the winner.
Good luck to everyone! If you need any tips on collections, please email your Area Manager!

Ten steps to stop smoking!
Being a smoker I have been around a lot of people who work for our company and smoke. So many times I have heard co-workers talk about quiting (including myself). I found these 10 steps and thought I would share them with everyone.
Ten steps to stopping smoking
The first few weeks may be tough, but you can do it. Follow these ten steps to stopping smoking - for good.
1. Make a date and stick to it. Draw up a plan of action, considering what methods are available to you.
2. Keep busy to help take your mind off cigarettes. Throw away all your ashtrays, lighters and tobacco.
3. Drink plenty of fluids - keep a glass of water or juice by you and sip it steadily. Try different flavours.
4. Get more active. Walk instead of using the bus or car, try the stairs instead of the lift. Exercise helps you relax and can boost your morale.
5. Think positively. Withdrawal can be unpleasant, but it is a sign your body is recovering from the effects of tobacco. Irritability, urges to smoke and poor concentration are common - don't worry, they usually disappear after a few of weeks.
6. Change your routine. Try to avoid the shop where you usually buy cigarettes. Perhaps you should avoid the pub or the break room at work if there are lots of smokers around you. Try doing something totally different. Surprise yourself!
7. No excuses. Don't use a crisis or even good news to be an excuse for 'just one cigarette' - there is no such thing and you will soon want the next and the next....
8. Treat yourself. This is important. If you can, use the money you are saving by not smoking to buy yourself something special, big or small, that you usually would not have.
9. Be careful what you eat. Try not to snack on fatty foods. If you do need to snack, try fruit, raw vegetables or sugar-free gum or sweets.
10. Take one day at a time. Each day without a cigarette is good news for your health, your family and your pocket.
May the force be with you!!

Hamilton Girls...
have started raising money for RELAY FOR LIFE. The Michelle's called a couple weeks ago to ask if they could start early. I told them sure just let me know what they were planning to do. They called and asked if they could buy bracelets to sell for a $1.00. I said sure, but how are you going to pay for the bracelets. They said that they were not sure so they would get back with me. Well, they found a way to do it. Their repo man, John Cox, donated the money to buy the bracelets. They bought 1000 bracelets and have set a goal to have them sold by the Christmas party. If they meet their goal that will start our fundraiser out with $1000.00.
If anyone has any ideas that they would like to start working on please get with you area manager. All fundraiser MUST be approved. If you would like to do something but not sure please let us know and we can help. Also, feel free to post any ideas under the comments.

Anabell Blankenship
I can honestly say that this is the first time I have ever met someone who had professional pictures taken of their dog! This is Anabell. She is Angela Blankenship's pride and joy. When she sends out her Christmas cards each year, Anabell is on the front of them. She's beautiful and I bet that she never gets dirty!
If anyone has any pictures they would like to share, please email them to your Area Manager.

Braeden Stevens
Here is a picture of Belinda Steven's little angel. As most of you may know, Belinda is a proud Nana. She has pictures of this child everywhere in her house, on her computer, and I can honestly say she has a new story to tell me about Braeden each time that I visit her office. Braeden is one of the many joys in Belinda's life and she loves to show her off. I have met this child and she is the happiest baby that I have ever seen. She rarely cries, and is full of smiles 99% of the time.

Things you do with kids...
My child hated to brush her teeth so I found some billybob teeth and gave to her. I explained to her if she did not brush her teeth she was going to look like this when she got older. I have to say it worked she begs to brush them.
Please send in any pictures that you would like to share with everyone.

Dena's daughter, Jessica, is on the junior varsity cheer leading squad at Lake Cormorant. (She is the one sitting down on the ground on the right-hand side at the end.)
Lake Cormorant's Jr. Varsity Cheerleaders attended UCA Cheer Camp in Gulf Shores and brought home 1st Place in the Home Pom, Extreme Cheer & Extreme Routine! With this 1st Place ranking the squad has the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida December 29-January 2 for an exclusive performance in the pre-game show of the 2008 Capital One Bowl with other squads from around the county.
Sounds like Dena may need some time off!

Labor Day Weekend!!
I hope everyone had a fun and safe Holiday! I wanted to share some pictures of what I had going on this weekend. My husbands family lives in New Orleans and they always evacuate to our house when there is a hurricane. I love them to death but I have to give them a hard time. When Hurricane Katrina hit I had Jeff's cousin end up living with us and going to school here until he graduated. I went from a 3 year old to a senior in High School. VERY BIG DIFFERENCE!
Anyways, I would like to share some pictures of my house.
This is what my drive way looks like.
We have 8 cars, 1 street bike and 2 dirt bikes in our driveway.
We have 6 dogs and 2 cats.
We have 11 people here including us.
I had originally planned to take vacation Tuesday but . . . I decided to go to work! I will save that day of vacation where I can use it to be alone!! HA
I hope everyone has a great day!
Bridget
